Starbucks, Medellín Market Intelligence & Resource Guide

Leading up to the launch of the Colombia market — called the “third most important in Starbucks’ history after the US and Japan” by then Starbucks president Cliff Burrows — Scott Mitchem led the LATAM design team in a research and sourcing project for the Bogotá and Medellín markets. The project leveraged Colombian designers and other local resources to forge a foundational understanding of the markets for the Starbucks LATAM design team, from competitive sets to design trends to potential collaborators.
The final deliverables were intelligence and resource guides (see Medellín document below), which informed all aspects of the design, development, and procurement processes, leading to elevated, locally relevant design at flagship cafés in both markets.
