Gateway Computers, Brand & Flagship Retail Strategy

New York, NY

in the early 2000’s, before the Apple store redefined retail, another technology company had similar ambitions. Gateway Computers’ goal was to redefine their retail experience, seeking to be a leader in the sector with highly conceptual flagship locations in major US markets.

Office In Concept, led by Scott Mitchem was asked to develop brand and retail strategy for the effort, with flagship stores to be designed by Portland-based interior design and architecture firm Vizwerks. The strategy document below represents a condensed version of the client strategy presentation, which won approval in late 2002.

The site selection process for a flagship retail store in New York City was halted in 2003 due to an SEC investigation into the company. The concept was never realized.
