Born In Brazil Special Issue, Wallpaper* Magazine

Rio de Janeiro | São Paulo, Brazil

In 2010 Scott Mitchem served as Wallpaper* magazine’s point person for an ambitious project, Born in Brazil. The effort had a single aim: “to produce as true a portrait as possible of an extraordinary country at an extraordinary moment of transition.” Over several weeks, the magazine shifted its operational headquarters to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, producing the entire issue in Brazil.

As Editor-at-Large, Brazil, Mr. Mitchem played many roles on the team, including strategist, writer, editor, location scout, event planner, advertising sales assistant, tour guide, and overall fixer. He had a lot of fun. The entire team did.

Mr. Mitchem’s longstanding relationships and familiarity with the market helped make the issue authentic and rich with content and nuance — as well as one of the most financially successful in the company’s history.
