Starbucks, Arcos Bosques Reserve Café, Mexico City
Mexico City, Mexico
As LATAM Design Director, Scott Mitchem led the team that designed the first Starbucks Reserve® café in Mexico, located at Arcos Bosques, a high-end shopping mall and luxury mixed-use development in the Bosques de las Lomas neighborhood of Mexico City.
The project’s priority was to establish the premium Reserve sub-brand in a foreign market, and the design was conceived to tell the origin story of every country involved in the program — leveraging the signature patterns developed to celebrate these specific regions, including Mexico’s Chiapas.
The site is located in a large glass atrium, which posed a number of challenges. The team embraced natural light as a design element, diffusing sunlight with laser-cut metal panels that express the aforementioned Reserve patterns, creating a unique experience within the café.
